About MalMoa

MalMoa (말모아) is a Korean video dictionary inspired by my own experiences learning Korean.

As a learner myself, I’ve often understood the meaning of Korean words and expressions but struggled to use them naturally in real conversations.

Pronunciation was another challenge. I could read Korean words, but I didn’t always know how they were supposed to sound. I’d often pronounce them the way I thought they sounded, without fully understanding the natural rhythm, pronunciation and intonation of spoken Korean.

Over time, I realised how valuable it was to hear native speakers and imitate the way they actually spoke, rather than relying on written words alone.

And even when I understood individual words, I sometimes struggled to recognise them in natural, connected speech or understand why someone chose a particular expression.

That’s why I created MalMoa.

Traditional dictionaries are useful for understanding definitions, but language is so much more than vocabulary. The way something is pronounced, the tone it’s delivered with, the situation it’s used in and the relationship between speakers can all affect its meaning.

MalMoa brings these elements together through authentic YouTube examples, helping learners hear Korean as it’s really spoken, discover natural expressions and better understand the context behind them.

Whether you’re looking up an unfamiliar expression, listening to how native speakers pronounce it or discovering everyday conversational language, MalMoa is designed to make real Korean easier to explore and understand.

My hope is that MalMoa helps other learners build confidence not only in understanding Korean, but also in expressing themselves more naturally.

Because learning Korean isn’t just about knowing the words. It’s about understanding how they’re spoken and used in real life.
